New Drone, Free Drones, & Contest!

May 9, 2019 | Ray C. Freeman III

Timed to coincide with the Tacoma-South Sound Mini Maker Faire at the University of Washington Tacoma Campus on Saturday, May 11, from 10:30am to 3:00pm, WORKSHOP 3D has launched their latest drone, in the form of a toy rocket man hover drone.

Come hang with the team – Spud, fluffy, and Jeff. It’s free!

To celebrate the launch of this new drone, along with an all-new version of the propellAR app, WORKSHOP 3D is holding an Instagram photo contest and giving away a real toy rocket man hover drone (Space Flyers Robot Brigade from Blue Sky Wireless) to the person who posts the photo we like the best by the end of May. Post your photos on Instagram with the hashtag #propellAR, and get in the contest! Your picture can be of any of the four drones.

Preview of the control panel for the new drone.

And that’s not all! To make it easier for you to enter the contest and win the toy drone, we’ve made all drones free to try out through the end of May. After that, they go back up to their regular price of 99 cents each. You can always fly the included drone for free.

Here are some images to get you started. You can do better than this! Before posting, you might want to crop your pictures to Instragram’s square format! Don’t forget the hashtag #propellAR. #workshop3d would be a nice touch, as well. Thanks to Roy Walter for the center image of the Lunar Return Module.

In addition to the new drone, the simultaneous release of propellAR (v1.3) is upgraded to offer additional platform support (notch, ARCore, and rendering upgrades) and a host of other improvements. Your phone’s light is now available when scanning a target, and drone display is disable while scanning a target, so you can see the target! Drones now return to base in the same orientation as they left, and the menu can be swiped, if that’s your thing.

WORKSHOP 3D, LLC personnel not eligible to win photo contest, but may feel free to post away to Instagram!
