WSECU (Washington State Employees Credit Union) was looking for a way to engage audience members at TEDx Seattle 2017. The theme for the event was “Changing Places”, and WSECU saw the opportunity to create an activity that focused on community engagement. As a member-owned and operated credit union, this is a high priority to them.
Working with the Experience Designers at Interplay, Inc., WORKSHOP 3D created a two-stage value-filtering app that allowed people to indicate their priorities regarding several different community oriented propositions or concerns.
After discussing the topic with a WSECU representative, which was another aspect of the engagement, the guest was invited to use a tablet to pick five words from a list of fifteen that represented their specific concerns, and then to order these from most to least important.
From this information, an augmented reality scene was created which incorporated their prioritized words onto street signage, bus advertisements, delivery trucks, bumper stickers, licence plate holders, concert posters, newspaper headlines, sandwich boards, yard signs, and other objects in the virtual environment, together with the topic that the scene was built to address.
After being shown this image by pointing the tablet’s camera toward a signpost with the topic identified at the top (which also served as the augmented reality target), the guest was offered the opportunity to have a photo taken in the scene, and the photo sent to them by email as a keepsake of their attendance at the TEDx event.
WORKSHOP 3D is continuing to work with Interplay, Inc. and WSECU to refine and adapt the app for use in other situation, including events, promotions, and in-branch surveys.
