Android version currently not available due to a new requirement from Google to add an environmental awareness warning to all augmented reality apps. We hope to have the app available again soon.

festivAR

festivAR is an app for viewing Augmented Reality festival information on your phone or tablet. It was created to allow festival promoters to present Augmented Reality maps connected to festival data without expensive or delicate equipment.

Overview

To view the 3D content, you will need access to the target that triggers the Augmented Reality. This may found in the wild at the festival, in the app itself, or from the festivAR Targets link on this page. When you scan this map, an Augmented Reality map and additional information will appear on the screen of your device. In addition to displaying the maps and data, an in-app camera shutter button allows you to capture them to your camera roll, and an icon in the upper left turns your light on and off, assuming your phone or tablet is so equipped. Tap the various highlighted items on the map for more information about them.

festivAR in Astoria

This is a close-up view of the first festivAR Augmented Reality map, created for the iLLUMiNART festival in Astoria. The purple areas are event venues, and the white vertical rectangles are “screen” – the sides of buildings – on which video was projected. Both were linked to more information in the app. Also visible are the pedestrians walking the walking tour, the Glam Tram following its route, the fire-breathing dragon, and the searchlights. All are animated in the AR map.

festivAR in Action

Jeff Daly created this video while Ray and Jeff were in Astoria fine-tuning the first release of festivAR for the iLLUMiNART festival. Warning: Ray may have had one too many double mochas sitting in the coffee shop working on it all afternoon.
